Dani Woods started her career off with a bang earning all-tournament honors in the 2005 Bama Bash! to open her rookie campaign. However, as with most freshmen, Woods struggled after that until Southeastern Conference play began. The Cockeysville, Md. native hit .310 against league competition en route to being named to the Freshman All-SEC team. The Alabama first baseman has made a big impact for the Crimson Tide this season, leading the team with 72 starts as she has filled the void left by former four-time All-America Jackie McClain.
Who were the main influences for you in coming to UA?
“I guess my parents. Both my parents and I agreed that this would be a great fit for me. The girls and the team were a big influence as well.”
Coming in as a freshman, did you expect that you would make the impact that you have made?
“Coming here, I wasn’t really expecting anything. But it has been great being put into the position to succeed and win games. I have enjoyed the opportunity that I have been given.”
What has been the biggest adjustment you’ve had to make from high school to college?
“Being away from home and my family. It was a lot harder in the fall, but has been easier to deal with this spring. The girls have made it so I don’t think about being away as much.”
What is something that your friends in Maryland know about you that few people here know about you?
“I’m really outgoing although I come off to most people as being shy.”
What is your most embarrassing softball memory?
“I believe I was playing 12 and under. I hit a single to center field and I was just cruising down to first base and the girl in center field threw me out at first.”
