The Southeastern Conference has announced that seven players from the 2005 Alabama softball team have been named All-SEC.
Jackie Wilkins (SR, Miami, Fla.) headlines the All-SEC selections for Alabama being named to the first team. It is her second All-SEC honor but first time as a first team member. She was named a second team performer her freshman season.
"She's probably the comeback player of the year in the conference," said Alabama head coach Patrick Murphy. "She struggled all last year, but was extremely dedicated all summer long and she had a great fall and now she's reaping the benefits from all her hard work."
Ashley Courtney, Staci Ramsey and Stephanie VanBrakle were all selected second team performers.
For Courtney (SR, Pembroke Pines, Fla.) it is her second time receiving the honor. She was a first team selection in her sophomore season.
Ramsey (JR, Houston, Texas) is also a two-time All-SEC performer being named to the second team last season.
VanBrakle (JR, Chambersburg, Pa.) is the only three-time member among the four having garnered second team honors her freshman year and first team honors last season.
Alabama also placed three members on the Freshman All-SEC team in Chrissy Owens, Jordan Praytor and Dani Woods.
Owens (FR, Miami, Fla.) led the SEC in saves in conference games only with 5 and ranked first in the league in ERA with a 0.43 mark.
Praytor (FR, Vancouver, Wash.) ranked sixth in the conference in triples and currently ranks second on the team in hitting.
Woods (FR, Cockeysville, Md.) led all conference first basemen in chances and finished fourth at the position in fielding percentage.
"These three will keep getting better and better and before it's all over, they'll be All-SEC if not All-American," said Murphy.
Alabama has now recorded 39 total All-SEC honors and the three Freshman All-SEC winners mark the first in Crimson Tide history.
Second seeded Alabama will take on the seventh seeded Mississippi State Bulldogs in the first round of SEC Tournament competition on Thursday in Gainesville, Florida. First pitch is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. ET. Fans can follow all the action at www.rolltide.come where live stats and audio will be available. In the Tuscaloosa area, all the action can be heard on 90.7 FM WVUA where Chad Anderson will call all the balls and strikes.
