The Southeastern Conference office has announced that Alabama junior third baseman Staci Ramsey has been selected this week’s SEC Player of the Week.
Ramsey helped the Tide to a series sweep of the South Carolina Gamecocks in Columbia this weekend hitting .455 (5-11) with two home runs, a double, three driven in and four runs scored. She posted a 1.091 slugging percentage.
Her two home runs on the weekend moved her into eighth on Alabama’s all-time home run list and they were also a single-season high in home runs with her seventh and eighth of the season.
It is the first such award for the Houston native but the fourth player of the week honor for the Crimson Tide this season. Ashley Courtney received the honor once during the month of February and once during the month of March while Stephanie VanBrakle was named the Pitcher of the Week in February.
Ramsey is currently on a team-high five game hitting streak ranks fifth on the team with a .313 average. Her seven home runs and 35 RBI also rank second on the team as well.
