The Crimson Tide wins its seventh SEC series, its most since 2019
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama softball secured the weekend series against South Carolina with a 1-0 shutout Friday afternoon at Rhoads Stadium.
The series win is Alabama's (46-6, 18-5 SEC) seventh of the season, its most SEC series victories since 2019. The 18 conference wins are the Crimson Tide's most since 2021, while a win in tomorrow's series finale would mark its highest SEC win total since 2014.
Alabama and South Carolina (30-24, 7-16 SEC) were scoreless until the bottom of the fifth, when a two-out single from Marlie Giles set up Ana Roman for a double in the gap, driving in Giles to give the Crimson Tide the first lead of the game. That proved enough cushion as the Alabama defense left five Gamecock runners stranded with Vic Moten (18-4) and Jocelyn Briski combining for the Tide's 22nd shutout of the season.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"Number one, I really appreciate the fans coming out today. With such short notice of the time change and a lot going on in town, we can't say thanks enough to those that came out. They truly made a difference. Secondly, Vic Moten had a great game. We've said from the beginning, the defense and pitching have been consistent and today that's what won us the game. The defense and pitching were there for us."
