Lauren Roark has all the makings of a future Crimson Tide star. In 2003 she helped lead her high school team, Demopolis High School, to a state championship. She was also voted the Class 4A State MVP. As a senior in 2004, Lauren was selected All-State by the Birmingham News and the ASWA. She was also voted NFCA All-State and named Captain and MVP of her team. But fans will have to wait another year to see Lauren show off her talent. She has been sidelined with a shoulder injury in what would be her freshman season. In the following interview, Lauren talks about her shoulder injury, her love for the Crimson Tide and the vacation of her dreams.
What happened to your shoulder that caused you to have surgery?
“I hurt my shoulder when I was diving for a ball. I hit the ground and dislocated it. The doctors had to go in a fix my labrum and some ligaments in my shoulder.”
You’re red shirting this season, so what do you hope to gain from taking the season off?
“This year I hope to take in a lot. We have a lot of good athletes on this team that I am going to be able to learn from.”
What’s your favorite Alabama sport other than softball?
“Definitely football! That is always fun. I really hope we can get back to the glory days.”
What television show is your guilty pleasure?
“I don’t really watch a lot of TV. There’s no one show that I just have to watch.”
You’re from Demopolis. Have you always been a Tide fan? What’s your earliest memory of Alabama sports?
“Yeah, I’ve always been a big fan. I can’t remember how old I was, probably 10 or so. I came to a football game and it was Homecoming. My parents and I sat in the student section. It was crazy!”
What’s your dream vacation spot?
“I would say Hawaii. And actually, we just went there. While we were there, we mostly played softball, but we got to see Pearl Harbor. We also went to Hanauma Bay and snorkeled, and got to do a little shopping at places like Niketown when we had some down time.”
