Tide Women's Golf Continues Play at Liz Murphey Classic

ATHENS, Ga. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team trimmed eight strokes off their opening round total en route to posting a second round score of 311 on Saturday at the 37th annual Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic.
Senior Megan George was the Tide’s top finisher on the day firing an even par 72. George’s round was one of the best of the day at the event and vaulted her into a tie for 14th in the individual medallist competition at 150.
Junior Carina Sorensen bounced back from a disappointing first round with a solid score of 77 (165/ T84th) on Saturday while fellow UA junior Audrey Gale cut two shots off her opening round performance posting an 80 (162/ T74th) on day two.
“We played much better today,” said Alabama head coach Betty Palmer. “We are continuing to make improvements in all facets of our game. Hopefully we can build on today’s performance as he head into Sunday’s final round.”
Sophomore Amy Middleton recorded her second straight 82 (164/ T81st) while freshman Emily Sykes, the squad’s first round leader, finished with an 86 (163/ T78th) to round out the Crimson Tide scoring.
Georgia, the host of the event, continues to lead the team competition at 592, seven shots in front of current runner-up Tulane (579). LSU is in third place at 600 heading into final round play with Auburn (604), Tennessee (607) and Wake Forest (607) rounding out the Top Five teams. Tulane’s Lindsey Hulwick leads the individual competition by one stroke at 145.
Tournament action at the Liz Murphey Classic concludes with a final round of 18 holes on Sunday at the par 72, 6,228-yard UGA Golf Course.
