TUSCALOOSA – The University of Alabama women’s basketball team held its annual postseason banquet and award ceremony on Tuesday night in the Scholarship Room of Bryant-Denny Stadium.
The 2004-05 Crimson Tide squad, who finished the year at 14-15, was recognized for their hard work and dedication on and off the court. Retiring head coach Rick Moody, the winningest basketball coach in Alabama Hoops history (men’s or women’s), was also honored for his 16 years of service.
Following a catered meal by Mike & Ed’s Barbeque, Moody gave a brief recap of the 2004-05 season and then presented each player with a plaque honoring their participation and accomplishments for the year.
In addition, several players were also honored with annual team awards that are voted on by the players. Seniors Monique Bivins, Natasha Gamble and Katie Sipe were all elected permanent team captains for this season. Freshman point guard Lateefah Joye was named the “Most Improved Player” while sophomore newcomer Marverly Nettles garnered the “Shelly Pyles Hustle Award”. Sipe grabbed a second award, earning the “Dottie Kelso Inspiration Award”.
The evening ended with a highlight video that included tributes to this year’s senior class as well as to Moody.
