For the second straight week, the Alabama women's golf team will face some of the top teams in the nation, as they will travel to Destin, Fla., to compete in the ACC/SEC Challenge. The 54-hole Challenge will be begin on Friday, Oct. 28 and end on Sunday, Oct. 30, with one round scheduled per day at the Raven Course at the Sandestin Resort. Florida State will host the event.
The Tide will be anxious to rebound from their most recent outing in which the team posted its highest round of the season en route to a 14th-place finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Knoxville, Tenn., last weekend.
The Crimson Tide will participate in the ACC/SEC Challenge for the sixth consecutive season. Alabama's highest finish came in 2000, when the Tide placed third among 12 teams competing.
The Tide will be led by junior Jenny Suh. Suh, a two-time All-American from Fairfax, Va., has fired the lowest score for the Tide in each of the team's two outings this season. She owns a 73.67 stroke average, the lowest on the team, and is ranked No. 48 in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin individual ratings. Suh just missed her 14th career top-10 finish at the Mercedes-Benz Championship, tying for 11th place and missing the top 10 by a single stroke.
The event has traditionally featured some of the best women's teams in the nation, as both leagues have produced highly ranked squads nearly every season.
This season's rendition of the event will be no different. Florida, No. 20 in the most recent Golfweek/Sagarin poll, will compete at the event, as will No. 35 LSU and No. 58 Florida State. In addition, South Carolina, Ole Miss and Mississippi State from the SEC will be present. Miami is scheduled to participate in the event, but their status remains uncertain in the aftermath of Hurricane Wilma.
Play is scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m. on Friday. Results will be available on the Florida State athletics web site, www.seminoles.com.
