The Southeastern Conference has announced that The University of Alabama junior outfielder Capper Reed has been named the SEC Softball Player of the Week.
Reed helped lead the Tide to a 3-1 record last week including a 2-1 series victory over the eighth ranked Georgia Bulldogs in Tuscaloosa.
“Capper did an outstanding job this weekend, especially with two strikes,” said Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy. “Capper was a key reason we were successful last week and she will be play a big role as we go down the post season path.”
Reed, who came to Alabama as a freshman to play basketball joined the softball team in the second half of the season over the last two years. She gave up the hard court this past fall to concentrate on softball and has since recorded career highs in virtually every statistical category, and has hovered around the .300 mark all season.
This past week, she recorded the game-winning run on the road in Alabama’s win over Birmingham Southern. She also recorded the game-winning RBI in Alabama’s 2-1 win over Georgia on Sunday.
The honor is Reed's first ever and the fourth this season for the Crimson Tide.
