NEW HAVEN, CT. – Lars Brovold played his final round as a University of Alabama golfer here on Saturday. The Crimson Tide senior was one of six invited individuals who competed along with 27 teams for a chance to advance to the NCAA finals next June 1-4 in Hot Springs, Va.. Brovold was competing in the NCAA Division I Men’s Golf East Regional which concluded with final round play on Saturday.
Brovold finished the tournament nine over par, shooting 76-70-73/219 in the 54-hole tournament held at The Course at Yale. Though he did not make the cut and gain one of the regional’s two individual spots to advance to the finals, his play capped a solid Alabama golf career. He led Alabama in scoring for two straight seasons, going into the NCAA tournament with a 71.60 season stroke average. He was voted 1st team All-Southeastern Conference in 2004 and 2nd Team All-SEC as a junior and leaves Alabama as a three-time Academic All-SEC award winner. In the fall of 2002, Brovold represented Norway in the World Amateur and finished 19th among the field of 192. He set the school’s low round record last season as a junior when he carded a 63 and was the medalist at a tournament hosted by North Carolina this past season.
