Jennings is Co-Leader, Alabama in Sixth after Strong Second Round at the NCAA Men’s Golf Marana Regional

William Jennings is in a first-place tie at 12-under par, including a round of 7-under 65 to lead the Crimson Tide on day two
MARANA, Ariz. – Alabama's men's golfer William Jennings carded a second round score of 7-under par 65 on Tuesday and is in a first-place tie at 12-under par thru 36 holes played at the NCAA Marana Regional. As a team, the Crimson Tide finished the day at 10-under par and remains in sixth place overall with a team total of 12-under 564 (286-278).
The top five teams at the regional along with the top individual from non-advancing teams will move on to the NCAA Championships at Omni La Costa Resort & Spa in Carlsbad, California from May 29-June 3.
Round Two Highlights
- William Jennings continued his hot play, finishing the day with six birdies, an eagle and a bogey to close out at 7-under 65 and vault into a tie for the clubhouse lead
- Tuesday's round came a day after he collected six birdies and a bogey to finish with 5-under 67, resulting in his two-day total of 12-under par 132 (67-65)
- His 12 total birdies are third-best among all individuals, while he also ranks second in par 5 scoring (-7, 4.13)
- Jennings enters Wednesday's third and final round tied with Oklahoma State's Eric Lee (-12) for the individual lead
- Brycen Jones emerged in round two, closing with a 5-under par 67, to jump into a tie for 14th overall with a 36-hole total of 5-under 139 (72-67)
- Starting on the 10th hole, Jones recorded one birdie across his first nine holes, but responded with four consecutive birdies beginning on Hole No. 2 through Hole No. 5 to finish his back nine at 4-under par
- Jonathan Griz is in a tie for 34th at 1-over par 145 (70-75)
- Nick Gross, who set the pace for the day by beginning his round with three-straight birdies, finished at 2-under 70
- He is in a tie for 51st with a two-day total of 4-over par 148 (78-70)
- Connor Brown rounds out the starting lineup in a tie for 64th overall at 8-over 152 (77-75)
Team Highlights
- Alabama was one of five teams in the 14-team Regional to finish round two under par by double digits
- The Tide ranks second in the field in par 3 scoring (-1, 2.98), fourth on par 4 holes (-3, 3.97) and ninth on par 5s (E, 5.00)
- Regional host and No. 3 seed Arizona (-35) carded an impressive 24-under par in round two to take a 10-stroke lead over top seed Oklahoma State (-25)
- No. 8 seed Arkansas State (-21) is in third, followed by No. 2 seed LSU (-18) and No. 5 seed Duke (-21)
- The Blue Devils are three shots ahead of the Crimson Tide for the final qualifying spot for NCAA Nationals entering the third and final round
