Day One: May 18
It’s now late on Tuesday night and while Capper, my support sister and roommate, is in the shower I’m going to reflect on our day. This morning, anxious to begin the day, I had my usual egg whites and toast and began packing at 8:00 a.m. We pulled out of Coleman Coliseum at 12:10, no earlier, no later (Murph is all about time on task. He is very organized!) On the bus ride to Birmingham, we received our usual meal money and weekend itinerary. This is always the moment that we are drawn into what our purpose is for the weekend. Our purpose is not to go search for stars’ homes, or shop, but it is to win the regional tournament. Although, I must say, it is nice to win and have free time to shop and hang out. We are all secretly hoping to make an Angels game while we are out here.
Our plane was delayed in Birmingham and so we had to book it to our connection in Atlanta. This was a four-hour flight in which we all slept, ate, talked, played cards, read magazines and watched the premier movie. I read “Tuesdays with Morrie”. This is a wonderful book in which I found myself crying at times and leaving the guy next to me thinking ‘What is with this girl?’
Post-season feels so different being a senior. We have three seniors with so much confidence in this team and we have no doubt that we will win this tournament. Alabama is definitely seen as the underdog but that will make it even sweeter when we succeed in victory!
Despite our early dismissal from the SEC Tournament, I feel that we are finally operating as a unit. Everyone looks great and feels confident and I know that it will carry into this week.
Tonight we all went and ate at our place of choice in Westwood near our hotel. A group of us pigged out at California Pizza Kitchen and just talked and laughed like we always do. I am about to hop in bed, but first things first, ROLL TIDE and GOD BLESS Alabama Softball!!
