Bama Women's Golf Finishes 8th at Lady Gamecock

BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team fired their lowest round of the weekend on Sunday to earn an eighth place finish at the Lady Gamecock Classic.
The Crimson Tide posted a final round 313 to finish in eighth place with a tournament total 947. North Carolina captured the team championship by 11 shots recording a three-day total of 905.
Alabama junior Darby Sligh was the Tide’s top finisher concluding the weekend with a final round 76 to earn a tie for 17th at 232.
“We played a little better on Sunday,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer. “Our struggles came on the final five holes every day. We just need to do a better job of finishing our rounds. Hopefully we can learn and build upon this weekend’s experiences. We did make improvements in some areas and I’m looking forward to getting back on the practice course and moving forward for the next event.”
In addition to Sligh’s Top 20 performance, Alabama also got solid final round scores from junior Megan George at 78 and sophomore Carina Sorensen with a 77. George finished in a tie for 30th at 238 while Sorensen was tied for 36th with a score of 240.
Freshman Amy Middleton shot a 239 including a final round 83 to finish tied for 32nd and senior Mandy Tedder finished in a tie for 50th at 248 to round out the Crimson Tide’s line-up at the Lady Gamecock.
North Carolina captured the team championship with host-team South Carolina coming in second at 914. Texas earned a third-place finish at 916 followed by Wake Forest (918), Washington (927), Furman (936), LSU (939), Alabama, Florida State (953), Texas A&M (954) and North Carolina State (970). UNC’s Ashley Prange led wire-to-wire en route to capturing the individual medallist honor with a score of 219.
After playing for two consecutive weekends, the Tide gets some much-needed rest before returning to competition in two weeks at the Liz Murphey Collegiate Championship in Athens, Ga., on Mar. 26-28.
