All-Jim Wells 10th Anniversary Baseball Team Announced

Star-studded squad highlights ten years at Alabama for Coach Wells

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. -- The results are in and the votes have been counted for the presentation of the All-Jim Wells 10th Anniversary Baseball Team at The University of Alabama.
Alabama fans voted on the school's official website from Jan. 16 through Feb. 6. A total of 6,162 votes were cast to select the 10th anniversary Wells team. Fans were able to vote for players at various positions that would comprise the All-Wells team.
The selection called for eight starting pitchers, six outfielders, three catchers, three relief pitchers, two first basemen, two second basemen, two third basemen, two shortstops and two utility players. There were 10 starting pitchers selected as three players tied for the eighth and final spot in the balloting.
The team was announced today at the annual preseason barbecue sponsored by the Alabama GrandSlammers. The barbecue was held in the Scholarship Room at Bryant-Denny Stadium and gave the fans a glimpse of the 2004 Crimson Tide baseball team. Coach Wells addressed the 500+ people in attendance and then invited the group to Sewell-Thomas Stadium to watch the final scrimmage of the preseason camp.
The All-Wells team contains players that played during the 1995-2004 seasons at Alabama, including three current members of the UA baseball team.
Current players named to the All-Wells team include junior left-hand pitcher Brent Carter, junior left-hand pitcher Taylor Tankersley and senior lefty Jeffrey Norris.
Andy Phillips (1997-99) was the top overall vote getter with 3,704 votes. The Demopolis, Ala., native wrapped up his 244-game career by hitting .356 with 61 home runs and 226 RBI. He is the Alabama all-time leader in games played, starts, at-bats, runs scored, total hits, home runs, RBI and total bases.
The remaining top 10 vote getters included G.W. Keller (3,642), Joe Caruso (3,554), Jarrod Kingrey (3,528), Lance Cormier (3,399), Dustan Mohr (3,358), Jeremy Vaughn (3,200), Matt Frick (3,192), Jonathan Blankenship (3,171) and Scott McClanahan (2,946).
