The University of Alabama football had eight players named to the Southeastern Conference Coaches' Football Team, the league announced on Monday.
Leading the way were senior offensive lineman Wesley Britt, senior linebacker Cornelius Wortham and senior kicker Brian Bostick who all were named first-team performers. Britt is a repeat first-team selection.
Senior offensive lineman Evan Mathis was a second team offensive selection. Linebackers DeMeco Ryans and Freddie Roach and safety Roman Harper were all second team defensive selections. Kick returner Tyrone Prothro was a second team special team selection.
"We're all proud of the accomplishments of these young men," said Alabama head coach Mike Shula. "Having these athletes earn these honors reflects well not only on the individuals but on the team as a whole."
Wortham, Ryans, Roach and Harper led a defense that ranked first in passing defense second in the country in total defense and pass efficiency defense while Britt and Mathis led the way for the SEC's second ranked rushing attack.
Bostick ranks second in the conference in scoring and field goals per game. Behind Prothro, Alabama led the conference and was third nationally in kickoff return average.
