DESTIN, Fla. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team fired a final round 317 at the Chrysler ACC/SEC Collegiate Challenge marking the conclusion of their 2004 fall season.
The Tide carded a three-day score of 943 finishing in 16th-place at the event held at the par 71, 5,937-yard Raven Golf Club at the Sandestin Resort.
“We really struggled closing things out on our final round,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer. “It was a disappointing finish to our fall season. The positive thing is that we now have several months of offseason practice to work on the areas we need to improve. I believe this is going to be a learning and maturing period for this team and the opening of our new practice facility at Ol’ Colony will only aid in that process. Hopefully, we will be a much stronger team, both mentally and physically, in the spring.”
Senior Megan George fired a final round 76 to lead the Tide. George finished in a tied for 51st with a score of 232. Junior Audrey Gale was tied for 54th at 233 including a final round 81.
Others competing for Alabama at the ACC/SEC Challenge included Rebecca Sykes T-60th (235), Amy Middleton T-71st (244) and Emily Sykes 79th (253).
Top ranked Duke earned the team championship with a score of 856, one shot in front of runner-up Auburn at 857. LSU (879), Wake Forest (881) and Mississippi State (888) rounded out the Top Five squads. AU’s Diana Ramage captured the medalist crown by four strokes after posting a seven-under-par 206 on the weekend.
The Alabama women’s golf team will now taken almost four months off from competition returning to the course and tournament action next on Feb. 20-22 at the Papa John’s Collegiate Invitational in Miami, Fla.
