KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team continues fall competition this weekend at the Mercedes-Benz Women’s Collegiate Championships being held at the par 71, 5,932 yard Cherokee Country Club.
The Tide, playing in its first of three October events, is looking to build on the success of its opening tournament. UA posted a third-place showing at the season opening UA-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate on Sept. 20-21.
Senior Megan George, who captured the medalist honor at the Ann Rhoads, leads the Tide travel squad at the prestigious Mercedes-Benz Championship. George is joined at the event by juniors Carina Sorensen and Audrey Gale, and freshmen Emily Sykes and Rebecca Sykes.
“We have had a couple weeks of good practice since the start of the season,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer. “After the first tournament we saw the areas where we needed work and have done a good job of getting better. Hopefully, we can put things together this weekend and give ourselves a chance for a great finish.”

Participating teams include Alabama, Arkansas, James Madison, Kent State, Kentucky, LSU, Michigan State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Purdue, Tennessee, Tulane, Tulsa, Virginia, UNC Wilmington and the Swedish Junior National Team.
