Senior diver Lane Bassham continued her perfect season for the Alabama women's swimming and diving team Saturday when she won both the one and three-meter boards against the Florida Gators in front of a full house in Gainesville.
Bassham scored 305.02 off the one-meter and 334.42 off the three-meter to win the events. Eight meets into this season, with only two more regular season outings remaining, and the Moultrie, Ga. native has remained unstoppable.
Her wins though, couldn't carry the Tide past the Gators though, both the women and the men lost in Gainesville, 146-82 and 135-94 respectively. Alabama's women go to 5-4 on the season while the men are now 6-3.
The meet was swum on a 50-meter course, the same as will be swum this summer at the Athens Olympics, instead of the usual 25-yard course favored by collegiate swimming.
Freshman Igor Erhartic, fresh off his first collegiate win the day before against Florida State, kept the ball rolling by winning the 200m freestyle with a time of 1:55.54, out racing Florida's Kris Wiebeck. Sophomore Chris Flamion also picked up a win against the Gators, going 2:10.04 in the 200m butterfly to touch first. Alabama's men also won the final relay, posting a 3:33.98 when sophomore Darren Erasmus combined with seniors Brendan Ashby, Ben Worby and James Willcox in the 400m freestyle relay.
Alabama returns to action January 30th in Columbia, SC where they will close out their regular season Southeastern Conference slate against South Carolina.
