University of Alabama freshman forward Jermareo Davidson is experiencing his first season of college basketball this year as a starter on the Crimson Tide men's basketball team. This week he and his Tide teammates hit the road for two weeks, travelling to his home state of Georgia (he's from Atlanta) to play the Georgia Bulldogs on Wednesday night and then to Oxford, Miss., where Alabama takes on the Ole Miss Rebels on Saturday.
Being from Atlanta, did you grow up a Tide fan or did you cheer for Georgia?
"To be honest, I never watched any college basketball until I started to be recruited. I just never had time to watch it between school and basketball practice. I watched the NBA occasionally, but not enough to follow a certain team."
Did you have any players that you watched or looked up to?
"Allen Iverson and Kevin Garnett."
Georgia has eight freshmen on their team. Did you play with or against any of those freshmen or anyone else on the team?
"I went to middle school with (freshman) Corey Gibbs. I've played with and against him, and I also played against (senior) Jonas Hayes and his twin brother Jarvis (a former Georgia player.)"
What has been the biggest difference from high school basketball and college hoops?
"It is so much more aggressive than high school. It also feels different playing halves instead of quarters."
What is the biggest attribute to describe SEC play?
"So much more physical than any other team we've played."
Who has been the toughest player and/or team you have had to defend against so far?
"(Ian) Crosswhite from Oregon was very tough. LSU has been the toughest team to defend so far."
The SEC Basketball Tournament is in Atlanta this year, in your hometown. What are you most looking forward to about playing in it at the Georgia Dome?
"Playing in front of my friends and family will be exciting. I'm also looking forward to seeing my old coaches and other coaches that I've played against in high school."
