BIRMINGHAM – The Southeastern Conference office announced the 2003 Women’s Golf Academic Honor Roll and the Alabama Crimson Tide had eight honorees on the list released Wednesday.
The Tide placed the second most student-athletes on the academic roster trailing only Vanderbilt with nine. Alabama’s list of honorees included Allison Akin, Erica Boozman, Jenny Bouvin, Jordan Daniel, Sarah Johnston, Darby Sligh, Anna Strandberg and Mandy Tedder.
“I am extremely proud of the work done in the classroom by this group of young women,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer, who has now produced 81 Academic All-SEC honorees in her 15 years at the Capstone. “We take pride in bringing all-around student-athletes into our program and this group has lived up to the high academic standards that we’ve set. It is a tremendous honor for each of the girls and a true reflection of their commitment and dedication.”
Alabama’s list of award winners included several repeat members on the Academic All-SEC squad with Johnston making her third appearance. Akin, Boozman and Bouvin were second-time honorees and Daniel, Sligh, Standberg and Tedder were all first time recipients. Tedder, a native of Watkinsville, Ga., paced the UA group posting a 3.81 GPA in Public Relations.
The SEC Women’s Golf Honor Roll included 51 student-athletes from the 12 league members and the honor was based on the grades from the 2001-02 academic year.
