Dear Crimson Tide Fan,
Saturday night our football team faces an excellent team in Northern Illinois, a squad that has already beaten Maryland and will present a real challenge to our Crimson Tide. I hope many of you will be there at Bryant-Denny because your support certainly helps our team, but for those who aren't the game will be televised in the state on a pay-per-view basis. You need to check with your local cable outlet for details.
Our staff and Butch Henry of Crimson Tide Sports Marketing have worked hard with Yahoo in order that members of CrimsonTradition.com can listen to the events on the internet without any additional charges. The athletic department will incur those costs for subscribers to CT.com. Members can click here for more information. You may sign up for CrimsonTradition.com here.
Bobby Humphrey, our great running back in the 1980s, will be here Saturday night to run out the game football and he will also be in the Crimson Tide Sports Marketing tent signing autographs prior to the game.
Once again, Shaud Williams has been chosen as the SEC "Offensive Player of the Week" for his outstanding play in the win over Kentucky; and I want to extend my congratulations to him, not only for the way he plays the game but also in the manner in which he represents the University on and off the playing field.
We have reached a programming agreement with College Sports TV, which is now airing the Mike Shula Show Monday nights at 6:00 p.m.; and we are negotiating to have CSTV air some gymnastics, baseball and softball in the upcoming season.
After being on the road for the first three weeks of the season, Judy Green's volleyball team will be making its home debut Friday and Saturday in "The Cave" which is located in the back of Coleman Coliseum. Coach Green's team hosts the Crimson Tide Invitational – and our matches will be against Jacksonville State at 12:00 noon Friday, vs. Georgia Southern at 7:00 p.m. Friday; and against UAB at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Our women's golf team hosts the Alabama-Ann Rhoads Intercollegiate starting Sunday and running through Tuesday, September 23. The Tournament is named after one of our truly loyal supporters, Ann Rhoads, who generously supports all of our sports teams.
The competition will be held at the Capstone Club in Brookwood and it features 12 teams, including UAB, Augusta State, Birmingham Southern, Florida State, Jacksonville State, LSU, Memphis, Middle Tennessee, Mississippi State, Samford and Troy State.
The men and women's cross country teams, coming off top-5 finishes at the Belmont Opener to start the season, will also be competing at home this weekend. We are hosting the 16th Annual Crimson Classic Invitational Friday at Harry Pritchett Golf Course. The women's race gets underway at 5 p.m. while the men start at 5:30 p.m. With a strong field, it should again be an exciting afternoon of racing.
As a reminder for Saturday, September 27, the Arkansas game has been chosen for a CBS telecast and will kick off a little after 2:30 p.m. Don't forget that the campus is undergoing several major construction projects and I encourage you to arrive early and be patient when you are leaving campus.
Sincerely,
Mal Moore
Director of Athletics
