Six Alabama Players Named to Preseason All-SEC Squad

HOOVER, Ala. -- The University of Alabama had six players on the 2003 preseason All-SEC football team selected by the media members at the annual Southeastern Conference Media Days this week at the Wynfrey Hotel.
The Crimson Tide had five first-team preseason All-SEC selections and one second-team pick.
The list of first-team All-SEC selections includes linemen Wesley Britt (Jr. 6-8, 315, Cullman) and Justin Smiley (Jr. 6-4, 302, Ellabell, Ga,), running back Shaud Williams (Sr., 5-8, 162, Andrews, Texas), defensive lineman Antwan Odom (Jr., 6-5, 273, Bayou LaBatre) and linebacker Brooks Daniels (Sr., 6-2, 198, Jasper, Fla.).
Linebacker Freddie Roach (So., 6-2, 237, Killen) was UA's lone representative on the second team preseason All-SEC squad.

70 Wesley Britt (LT)
Started 25 consecutive games for the Crimson Tide since his debut in the 2001 season opener against UCLA...Logged 1,605 career snaps on the UA line...2003 Preseason All-American (The Sporting News)...Rated by TSN was the nation's third-best offensive tackle...2000 Lombardi Award watch list...First-Team All-SEC selection as a sophomore...First-Team Freshman All-SEC and Fourth-Team Freshman All-American (The Sporting News) in 2001.
18 Brooks Daniels (WLB)
Ranks 13th at Alabama with 226 career tackles...Only player in school history with back-to-back 100 tackle seasons...Daniels had 110 tackles last season while earning Second-Team All-SEC honors (AP)...He contributed 102 tackles as a sophomore (2001), making him one of only two sophomores in school history with 100 or more tackles...Recorded 10 double-figure tackle games at Alabama since 2000.
98 Antwan Odom (DE)
Named the Most Valuable Lineman of the 2003 A-Day Game...Rated by The Sporting News as the 18th best defensive lineman in college football...Appeared in 26 career games at Alabama and has logged 58 tackles, 13 sacks (-88) and seven TFLs (-24)...Played in all 13 games as a redshirt sophomore (2002) and finished the year with 42 tackles.
8 Freddie Roach (MLB)
Listed by The Sporting News as the No. 15 outside linebacker in the nation...Appeared in all 13 games for the Crimson Tide last season and finished the year with 63 tackles, six TFLs (-17) and one sack (-4)...Started 10 games at middle linebacker...Recorded a 41-yard interception return and touchdown in his collegiate debut vs. Middle Tennessee State (Aug. 31)...Named to the 2002 Freshman All-American by Football Writer's Association of America (FWAA) and The Sporting News...Also named the SEC's Defensive Player of the Year by TSN...Named Freshman All-SEC by the SEC Coaches, AP, Knoxville News-Senitnel and The Sporting News.
78 Justin Smiley (LG)
Started 25 consecutive games for the Crimson Tide since his debut in the 2001 season opener against UCLA...Logged 1,596 career snaps on the o-line for Alabama...Named 2003 preseason All-American by Playboy and Collegefootballnews.com...Rated by The Sporting News as the nation's fifth best offensive guard in the nation...As a sophomore (2002), Smiley was named Second-Team All-SEC (Coaches and AP) and was an honorable mention All-America pick by CNNSI.com...As a freshman (2001), Smiley was named All-SEC by the SEC Coaches, Knoxville News-Sentinel and The Sporting News and was a third-team All-American selection by TSN.
21 Shaud Williams (RB)
Enters the 2003 season with 3,176 all-purpose yards in his collegiate career...In addition in 35 career games at Texas Tech and Alabama, Williams had rushed for 1,805 yards in his three-year career...He had four 100-yard games in his first season with the Crimson Tide last year and concluded the year with 921 rushing yards and five TDs...Williams had his best game in the 2002 season finale at Hawai'i, where he rushed for 160 yards and one TD...Williams had an 8-yard TD run at Arkansas on the very first play from scrimmage in the 30-12 win at Fayetteville last year...He was an honorable mention All-SEC selection as a junior.
