Tide Golfers Finish 10th in Regular Season Finale

AUBURN - After playing three tournaments within 13 days, the University of Alabama men's golf team now gets a two week break as it prepares for the 2003 Southeastern Conference Men's Golf Championships which will be held April 25-27 at Sea Island, Ga.
The Crimson Tide concluded its regular season here Sunday, finishing 10th at Auburn's Billy Hitchcock Intercollegiate. Alabama shot 312-295-294/901 for the weekend in the 54-hole event which was held at Saugahatchee Country Club.
UAB beat Arkansas on the third playoff hole to win the tournament. The Blazers, who shot 12 over par for the weekend, shot 301-277-298/876. Arkansas finished 2nd (876), followed by Georgia State and the College of Charleston (881), host team Auburn (882), Vanderbilt (884), Mississippi State (896), Florida State and Southeastern Louisiana (900), Alabama (901), Memphis (904), and Ole Miss (905).
UAB's Nathan Turner won the individual championship, shooting 69-70-70/209 to finish seven under par on the par 72 course and five strokes better than his nearest threat, a trio that finished tied at second at two under par (214) and included Georgia State's Ty Harris, Charleston's Bruce McDonald and Auburn's Lee Williams. Turner had been in third place, trailing second round leader McDonald going into Sunday's third and final round.
Alabama's Lars Brovold made a final round surge, shooting four under par on Sunday, a score that moved him up 20 spots in the final standings. Brovold finished the tournament tied at 15th (79-73-68/220). Clint Provost also made a jump in the final individual standings. The Tide sophomore shot one over on Sunday and finished 23rd (79-71-73/223). Alabama's other three participants included Wesley Pate who finished tied at 44th (77-76-76/229), Daniel Creel who finished tied at 56th (79-75-77/231) and Austin Hynson who finished 64th (77-85-79/241).
