LAFAYETTE, LA-The No. 25 ranked UL-Lafayette Lady Cajuns (16-5) kept the Alabama bats in check as they allowed only one hit en route to a 2-0 victory over the 16th ranked Crimson Tide (25-11).
The Lady Cajuns took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI single from Lauren Castle in the bottom of the second inning and added to their lead on an RBI double from Joy Webre in the sixth inning to push their lead to 2-0.
Jennifer Reach picked up the Tide's first hit of the day in the fifth inning when she reached on an infield single to shortstop. Reach's hit also extended her career-high hitting streak to nine games.
Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy used a 'pitcher by committee' approach as all three Crimson Tide pitchers saw action. Stephanie VanBrakle (7-4) took the loss as she went three innings allowing one run on two hits while striking out five batters. Jennifer Wright came on in relief throwing two innings of hitless ball while striking out four batters. Erin Wright threw the final inning allowing one run on two hits while striking out one Lady Cajun batter.
The Crimson Tide heads to Baton Rouge this weekend for a three-game showdown with SEC West rival LSU beginning on Saturday with a 4 p.m. doubleheader. Fans can catch all the action on WVUA 90.7 FM. Live stats for the series can also be followed at www.rolltide.com.
