Alabama Football Signs 17 to National Letters of Intent

Alabama has signed 17 new players to national letters of intent to play for the Crimson Tide beginning with the 2003 season, it was announced today. Coach Mike Price's first class at Alabama includes nine offensive and eight defensive players.

PLAYER PROFILES
Matt Caddell
WR, 5-11, 170, McCalla/McAdory
Matt helped McAdory to a 9-3 record as a senior. He was No. 8 on the The Tuscaloosa News' Sweet 16 list. He was rated the No. 12 prep prospect in Alabama by BorderWars. In his career he tied the state and national records with 12 punt returns for touchdowns. As a senior, he did a little bit of everything. He caught 14 passes for an average of 27 yards a catch, rushed for 828 yards and eight touchdowns, and returned four punts for touchdowns. As a free safety he made three interceptions. Matt accounted for 15 total touchdowns his senior season. He played on every special team, returned punts and kickoffs, offense and defense for McAdory. During his junior campaign, Matt caught 27 passes for 493 yards and six TDs. He also rushed for over 300 yards and six touchdowns. On defense, he registered 40 tackles and one interception. He is a member of the National Honor Society.
Chris Capps
OL, 6-6, 260, Fairburn, GA/Landmark Christian
Chris was an Atlanta Journal-Constitution Class A All-State selection his senior year. Chris has room to grow. Capps moves well and has the frame to add several dozen pounds.
Tim Castille
TB, 5-11, 220, Birmingham/Briarwood Christian
Tim was No. 2 on The Birmingham News' Super Seniors list. He was rated Alabama’s No. 9 prep prospect by BorderWars. As an eighth-grader playing wide receiver, Tim caught 65 passes for 1,194 yards and 11 touchdowns as Briarwood went undefeated and won the state title. As a junior, he had 913 yards and 22 TDs on 130 carries and also caught 55 passes for 825 yards and 12 touchdowns. Playing with a strained knee most of the season, Tim had 875 yards on 158 carries and nine touchdowns. He also caught 22 passes for 308 yards and one TD. For his career, Castille amassed 243 receptions for 4,122 yards and 41 TDs. He had 163 career touchdowns.
D.J. Chambers
DB, 6-0, 180, Highland Home/Highland Home
D.J. helped Highland Home to a 10-2 record as he rushed for 711 yards and 12 touchdowns. He also had 389 receiving yards, eight TDs and was the Alabama 2A “Back of the Year”. On defense, he had six interceptions, two of which he returned for touchdowns. He played runningback, quarterback, wide receiver, defensive back and returned punts and kickoffs his junior season. During that campaign, he accounted for 33 touchdowns.
Cliff Davis
QB, 6-5, 210, Eupora, MS/Eupora
Cliff led 2A Eupora to a 13-2 record, while throwing for 2,000 yards and 31 touchdowns. He was intercepted just six times. As a junior, he had 1,533 passing yards and 21 touchdowns. As a pitcher on the baseball team, with a fastball in the low 90s, he had 2.13 ERA with 156 strike-outs. He was a four-year starter at QB. This past season the 6-4, 205-pound Davis threw for 1,989 yards and 29 touchdowns. Davis also wants to play baseball in college.
Chris Felder
DB, 5-11, 170, Camden/Wilcox-Central
Chris is the nephew of former Tide player Shannon Felder. Chris played quarterback and defensive back his senior season and was rated the state's top defensive back. As quarterback, he passed for 990 yards and 15 touchdowns, while rushing for 776 yards and six TDs. On defense, he had 36 tackles, four interceptions and one fumble recovery which he returned for a touchdown.
Eric Gray
DB, 5-11, 190, Trinity/West Morgan
As a senior runningback, Eric had 1,965 yards and 21 touchdowns on 160 carries. On defense, he had 30 tackles and four interceptions while helping West Morgan to an 11-1 record. As a junior, Gray earned All-State honors after rushing for 1,154 yards and scoring 14 touchdowns. His longest run was a 95-yarder against Danville. On defense, he had 43 tackles and three interceptions. For his career, Eric had 4,504 yards rushing and 50 touchdowns. He also had 175 tackles and 13 interceptions as well.
Terrance Jones
LB, 6-1, 205, Northport/County
Terrance led the Wildcats in tackles three consecutive years and amassed over 300 career tackles. His senior season, Terrance contributed 117 tackles and seven sacks and three fumble recoveries. He was an All-West Alabama and All-State selection as a junior and senior.
Dominic Lee
DL, 6-4, 295, Birmingham/Huffman
Considered by most to be the state's top prep defensive line, Dominic earned 6A Lineman of the Year honors. He played exclusively on defense as a senior and turned in 78 tackles, nine sacks, one caused fumble, one recovery and one blocked kick. He was a second-team USA Today All-America, a member of the Super All-State team and was a 1st team All-Region, All-South and the No. 3 prospect in Alabama by BorderWars.
Le'Ron McClain
RB, 6-1, 240, Northport/County
While helping Tuscaloosa County to a 9-4 record, Le’Ron had 1,071 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns on 165 carries. He also had five receptions for 110 yards. He was a Super All-State selection. He was rated the No. 4 prospect in Alabama by BorderWars. As a junior, Le’Ron rushed 135 times for 1,007 yards and 21 TDs. As a starter on defense, he recorded 86 tackles, three sacks and one interception.
Justin Moon
OL, 6-6, 300, Guntersville/Guntersville
A relentless worker, Justin earned All-Region, All-County and All-State, first-team honors his senior season. As a junior, Moon was selected All-Region and All-County while playing right tackle for head coach Phil Isom. He has quick feet, is a hard worker and he is very intelligent. Moon runs a 5.28 40. He carries a 3.7 GPA.
Earnest Nance
LB, 6-3, 210, Courtland/Courtland
Earnest sustained a devastating knee injury last season, signed with Alabama, but did not enroll so he could rehab his knee. He played in just five games his senior season, rushing for 827 yards and nine touchdowns before injuring his knee. He also had 84 tackles through those five games. He had 1,101 yards rushing and 121 tackles as a junior. His senior season, Earnest was selected to The Mobile Press Register's Elite 18 team.
Eric Packer
WR, 5-9, 184, Camden/Wilcox-Central
Packer has speed to burn. He has been timed at 4.32 in the 40 and recorded at 41-inch vertical jump. As a sophomore, Packer ran for 1,700 yards and 25 touchdowns. His junior season, Packer rushed for 2,400 yards and 28 TDs. This past season he added 1,576 more yards rushing and another eight TDs. He also had over 300 yards receiving and another two touchdowns. He has seen limited action at cornerback, but will likely play wide receiver at Alabama.
Tyrone Prothro
DB, 5-10, 176, Heflin/Cleburne County
A teammate of current Tider Todd Bates, Tyrone played cornerback and runningback for Cleburne County. He amassed 8,099 career all-purpose yards, the third-best mark in Alabama high school history. He also accounted for 92 career touchdowns. In a state 4A playoff game against Brooks, he ran 170 yards in the 28-7 win. His junior season, Tyrone was perhaps the state's most versatile player, rushing for 1,031 yard and 11 TDs on 152 attempts. He also had 27 receptions for 508 yards and six TDs; returned 32 kickoffs for 804 yards and three TDs and had two punt returns for touchdowns. Playing defensive back in three games as a junior, Tyrone had six interceptions.
William Roach
WR, 6-1, 195, Killen/Brooks
Accounting for 15 total touchdowns his senior season, William rushed for 973 yards and passed for another 176 yards. He had 6,199 all-purpose yards in his career. On defense, he had 53 tackles and three interceptions from his safety spot. He was an All-County and honorable mention All-State selection. As a junior, he missed the first half of the season with a knee injury, but returned to play quarterback the latter part of the season. He finished with 817 passing yards and eight touchdowns, while rushing for 301 yards and five TDs. William had three brothers involved in football at Alabama, Tim and Quinten Bowens and current Tide star Freddie Roach.
DeMarcus Waldrop
LB, 6-0, 200, Pinson/Pinson Valley
A four-year starter at Pinson Valley, Demarcus had 157 tackles, 15 sacks and two interceptions as a senior. His junior year, he turned in 142 tackles, nine sacks, 14 stops behind the line and three interceptions to earn All-Metro and All-State honors. He was also a star on the track team, finishing 3rd in the 100-meter dash at the 6A state meet.
Travis West
OL, 6-4, 295, Laurel, MS/Northeast Jones
Another hard-working offensive lineman, Travis is a very intelligent offensive lineman. Travis was a three-year starter for Northeast Jones.
