Chrissy Owens wrote her name in Alabama softball lore in more ways than one when she signed to play with the Crimson Tide next season.
Owens not only became the first signee in this year’s signing period, but when she hurls her first pitch in an Alabama uniform she will become the tallest pitcher in Crimson Tide history.
The 6’1 senior at G. Holmes Braddock High School will also be no stranger to Alabama softball as two of her former summer ball teammates, Dominique Accetturo and Jackie Wilkins, currently star for the Crimson Tide.
“Coming from an extremely athletic family, Chrissy has great potential to be a star here at Alabama,” said Alabama Head Coach Patrick Murphy. “She has a great pitcher’s build with her tall frame and strong arm.”
Owens’ brother Henry Jr. currently pitches in the Pittsburgh Pirates organization while her sister Jennifer is a two-sport star in volleyball and softball at Florida International University.
A three-time high school team MVP, Owens currently holds the Dade County record for strikeouts and no-hitters posting an ERA of 0.16. She was also the 2003 runner-up for the Miami Herald Female Athlete of the Year award while being named all-state in 2001 and 2002.
