Tide Freshman Muller Wins at Roberta Alison Classic

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - The Roberta Allison Fall Classic women's tennis tournament, hosted by the University of Alabama, wrapped up Sunday, with the a Tide freshman capturing a singles title at the event.
Rio Negro, Argentina native Mari Muller scored a win over rival Auburn's Erin Gray to win the Flight H singles division in only her second collegiate tournament, and her first matches in Tuscaloosa.
"I tried to keep playing strong the whole time," Muller said. "I kept moving forward throughout the match and stayed confident. One of the best things about being here so far is the support of my team. It makes me want to go out and win for them."
Other matches involving Alabama players today, Melissa Minor lost a three-setter to Florida State's Amber Tantee, and Sonja Nikolic fell in three sets to Auburn's Evan Epps, both in consolation play.
In Flight A singles, South Alabama's Marlieka Jager won the title with a straight set win over Mississippi State's Anastasia Kugakolova.
Alabama assistant coach Daryl Greenan, who was responsible for overseeing tournament operations, was very pleased with the overall experience of the Roberta Alison.
"We take pride in doing things the right way and having a lot of extra help," Greenan said. "David Ford and Emily Baker have done a wonderful job taking care of everyone this weekend, and our entire staff did an excellent job in making this one of the best-run fall tournaments in the country."
