Tide Women's Golf Concludes Play at ACC/SEC Shootout

DESTIN, Fla. – The University of Alabama women’s golf team saved its best for last shooting a final round 308 on Sunday in the Chrysler ACC/SEC Shootout at Sandestin Golf & Beach Club Raven Course.
Bama’s last round score was the team’s lowest round of the three-day event and off the fall season thus far. Sophomore Darby Sligh led the way for the Tide carding an even-par 71 over the final 18 holes. Sligh finished tied for seventh at event with a score of 220, marking her first career Top 10 showing.
“We didn’t play our best golf but we did continue to improve each day,” said UA head coach Betty Palmer. “We just need to get back to work in practice and get some things turned around. I was really proud of how well Darby played.”
Redshirt sophomore Jordan Daniel, making her first collegiate tournament appearance for the Tide posted a career-low 80 on Sunday to finish with a three-day score of 249. Other golfers competing at the Shootout for Bama included Mandy Tedder with a 79 in the final round for a 233, Jenny Bouvin with a 78 (236) and Anna Strandberg at 86 (249). Freshman Carina Sorensen posted a 245 including a final round 77 playing as an individual.
Auburn fired a 296 on the last day moving past Duke (303) to capture the team championship with an 887 tournament total. Duke finished in second at 893 with Florida (894), Florida State (903) and North Carolina State and Mississippi State (904) rounding out the Top five teams. Diane Ramage, of Auburn, won the individual medalist crown at 214 including a final round 73.
The Crimson Tide will enjoy a few weeks off from competition before returning to the links on Oct. 18-20 for the Mercedes-Benz Intercollegiate at the Gettysvue Golf & Polo Club in Knoxville, Tenn.
