2006 (Sophomore): Made his first career start against Hawai’i, recording six tackles. He also started at safety against Tennessee, Florida International and Mississippi State. He finished the season with 26 tackles, including 19 solo stops, 1.5 tackles for a loss and two forced fumbles. He had at least one tackle in all 10 of the games he played in. Johnson also returned two kickoffs for 40 yards. He missed the final two games of the regular season due to an ankle injury. He posted a career-high six tackles in the season opener against Hawai’i. He forced a fumble and recorded four tackles against Vanderbilt in the SEC opener. He also forced a fumble at Florida. He had one kickoff return for 20 yards against both Duke and Ole Miss. He played 406 total snaps on the year with a season-high 60 plays at Tennessee. He played 25 or more snaps in nine of his 10 games and had three games with 50 or more plays. He captained the special teams unit against both Arkansas and Tennessee.
2005 (Freshman): Johnson played in all 12 games, all on special teams. Johnson played a total of 196 snaps on the season on the Crimson Tide’s punt, punt coverage and kickoff coverage units. He played a season high 20 snaps in the regular-season finale at Auburn. He recorded eight special teams tackles, including two each against Southern Miss and LSU and caused a fumble against Auburn.
