2005 (Senior): A member of the Tide’s stalwart linebacking corps, Roach started every game for the Tide his senior season. He tied for the active team leader for consecutive games played with 50. By the end of his collegiate career, Roach ranked 10th on Alabama’s all-time tackle list with 272 career stops. He was third on the team in tackles in 2005 with 66 and led the defense with nine pass break-ups. Roach recorded a season high 11 tackles against Arkansas and also had three PBUs. He had a nine-tackle game against Tennessee and Auburn while making eight stops against Mississippi State. Roach helped anchor a defense that finished the 2005 season ranked first in scoring defense, second in total defense, fifth in pass efficiency defense and pass defense and ninth in rushing defense.
2004 (Junior): A starter in the final six games of the season, Freddie saw action in every game and finished with 548 snaps on the season. He played 76 snaps against Minnesota in the Music City Bowl. Roach was the Tide's fourth-leading tackler, turning in 57 stops on the season. He also had nine stops behind the line for 26 yards and two sacks for 10 yards. He added five quarterback pressures, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery and one pass break-up. He had nine tackles and two stops behind the line for six yards against LSU; nine tackles against Minnesota and eight tackles versus South Carolina. Freddie began the season as a back-up to Cornelius Wortham at middle linebacker, but moved to starter at the weak side after an injury to Juwan Garth. He averaged 5.5 tackles in his starting role.
2003 (Sophomore): The Tide's fifth-leading tackler, Freddie was a starter in 12 games and finished with 85 tackles. He had seven stops behind the line for 25 yards and one sack for four yards. He had five quarterback pressures, two pass break-ups, one forced fumble and one fumble recovery. He had two double-figure tackle games, getting 15 against Arkansas and 10 versus Southern Miss. He had a four-yard sack against Northern Illinois and two stops behind the line each against Kentucky (4 yds.), Northern Illinois (seven yards) and Southern Miss (9 yds.). His other TBL was against LSU (5 yds.).
2002 (Freshman): What a sensational season for Freddie Roach. He started 10 of the Tide's 13 games (playing 580 snaps) and was the team's sixth-leading tackler with 63 stops. He had six tackles behind the line for 17 yards, one sack for four yards, five quarterback pressures and one pass break-up. He also forced two fumbles and recovered another. Perhaps the biggest play of the season for Freddie came in the season opener against Middle Tennessee when he returned an interception 41 yards for a touchdown with just under three minutes remaining in the game. He had a season-high 10 tackles in that game. He had two tackles for loss in back-to-back games against Southern Miss (six yards) and Arkansas (seven yards).
2001 Redshirted
Prep: As a prep senior at Brooks High School, Roach rushed for 1,277 yards and 18 TDs. On defense, he had 194 tackles, including 23 stops behind the line and caused six fumbles. Freddie was rated the No. 2 linebacker in the state. He was a two-time All-State pick and was the American General “Back of the Year” as a senior. Freddie was a Super Senior selection by The Birmingham News and was No. 5 on The Tuscaloosa News Sweet Sixteen. His half brother is Tim Bowens, a former Alabama wide receiver. He had 155 tackles, four blocked kicks, 12 sacks, 1,082 yards rushing and 15 TD's as a junior; 158 tackles, six blocked kicks, and 14 rushing TD's as a sophomore. Roach, who helped his team to an 11-2 record his senior year, rushed for over 3,000 career yards, had over 500 career tackles and 11 blocked kicks.
Personal: Freddie is the son of Linda and Frederick Roach. He has three brothers, Will Roach, Tim and Quentin Bowens. Born 6-3-83. He is a Human Environmental Sciences major.
