TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - University of Alabama Athletics Director Mal Moore announced Monday that Marie Robbins has been promoted to senior women's administrator (SWA) at Alabama. She has served the last five and one-half years as Alabama's director of compliance and has served as the interim SWA since November of 2001.
"This is a move I have been contemplating since I became athletics director," said Moore. "Marie is a very capable administrator and she will serve the department well. As senior women's administrator, she will hold one of the highest administrative positions within the department."
Robbins will have individual sport oversight along with responsibilities involving all Title IX and gender equity issues. She will also represent Alabama at the SEC and NCAA level in all areas related to women's intercollegiate athletics.
"I am excited about the new responsibilities," Robbins said, "and I am appreciative of the confidence Coach Moore has in me. I look forward to working with the coaches of several sports in this new capacity. For me, it will be a career move that I have aspired to attain."
Robbins recently served as Chair of the NCAA Committee on Gymnastics. She had a distinguished athletics career at Alabama as a member of the 1988 national gymnastics championship team.
She is a 1993 graduate of Alabama's Law School and worked in the Southeastern Conference office before joining the Alabama staff in1996. While working at the SEC office, Robbins had responsibilities in compliance and academic affairs and coordinated the National Letter of Intent program.
"Marie has done a terrific job in compliance," said Gene Marsh, Alabama's Faculty Athletics Representative, "and I think she will do an excellent job as SWA."
