Five Women's Golfers Named to Academic All-SEC Squad

BIRMINGHAM -- The Southeastern Conference announced the list of 2002 Women’s Golf Academic All-SEC selections and five Alabama linksters were among the group of 47 student-athletes to garner the honor.
Crimson Tide seniors Sarah Johnston and Lacy Shelton were joined by juniors Allison Akin, Erica Boozman and Jenny Bouvin to push Alabama’s total to 73 all-time Academic All-SEC selections. Johnston and Shelton are both making their third appearances on the list while Akin, Boozman and Bouvin all earned their second consecutive honors.
Student-athletes must have a 3.0 GPA or better, be at least a sophomore academically and have earned a minimum of 24 hours toward a degree to be eligible for the Academic All-SEC team.
The Alabama women’s golf team is in Athens, Ga., preparing to begin play at this weekend’s SEC Championship being held at the UGA Golf Course. The Tide’s travel squad for the SEC Championship will consist of Johnston, Boozman, Mandy Tedder, Anna Strandberg and Darby Sligh. Play begins at the championship event on Friday and continues through Sunday.
