Three Tide Softball Players Selected NFCA 1st Team All-South

TALLAHASSEE, FL--The NFCA announced today that three members of the No. 18 ranked (USA Today/NFCA) Alabama softball team (46-19) have been named NFCA 1st Team All-South Region.
Senior Shelley Laird, sophomore Jackie McClain and freshman Ashley Courtney were all named to the first team for the Tide who will begin play on
Thursday in the 2002 NCAA Softball Championships.
For Laird it is her third All-Region selection, for McClain her second and the first for Courtney.
The three players are now eligible for All-American consideration.
Meanwhile, Alabama went through an hour work-out at the Seminole Softball Complex as they prepared for their opening round game against the Georgia
Tech Yellow Jackets.
Alabama and Georgia Tech have not faced each other this season, but have
played three times before with the Crimson Tide capturing all three games
with the last win coming in the 2000 Bama Bash!, a 9-3 Alabama decision.
The tournament is scheduled to begin at 12:30 p.m. with top-seed Florida
Atlantic taking on No. 6 seed Chattanooga, followed by Alabama and Georgia Tech at 3:00 p.m. No. 3 seed Florida State will take on No. 4 seed Auburn at 5:30 p.m. and an elimination game between the losers of Games 1 and 2 is set for 8:00 p.m. All times are Eastern.
