Lisa Nuxol-Wilson
Assistant Coach
*3rd Year at Alabama (May 2, 2005)
The Crimson Tide women’s basketball program added another element to an already experienced and talented staff with the hiring of Lisa Wilson, the former Lisa Nuxol.
Wilson, a coach with extensive ties to the junior college level in addition to Division I experience, coordinates academic progress for Smith. In addition, Wilson supervises the managerial staff, coordinates academic progress, assists with recruiting and coaches
the Tide post players for Smith. Wilson also organizes and manages Alabama’s basketball camps in conjunction with the other members of the Crimson Tide staff.
Wilson came to the Capstone after spending three seasons as the head coach at Seminole Community College in Sanford, Fla. Under her guidance, the Lady Raiders posted a 59-30 overall record and finished as the runner-up in the Mid-Florida Conference in 2004-05, her final season at SCC. During her tenure as head coach, the Lady Radiers were ranked as high as No. 9 in the nation, had 16 all-conference players and 17 academic all-conference performers.
A former SCC assistant coach, Wilson also served as an assistant coach/recruiting coordinator for Georgia Southern University. While at Georgia Southern, Wilson was part of two Southern Conference championships and recruited several record-setting players.
A native of Orlando, Fla., she played and graduated from the University of Central Florida in 1994 with a degree in political science. During the summer of 1996, Wilson was the head coach of Team Florida USA for their playing tour of Sweden, Finland and Estonia.
Smith had other ties to Wilson prior to her joining her first staff at Alabama. Wilson’s younger sister, Sara Nuxol, played in 15 games for Smith’s final Middle Tennessee State team in 2004-05. Two additional members of that Blue Raider squad was Ditte Jakobsen and Yamil Corder, natives of Denmark, who played for Wilson at SCC prior to transferring to MTSU.
In 2006-07, Wilson helped recruit Nathalie Reshard, who came to Alabama after a twoyear junior college career that included playing under Wilson as a freshman at Seminole CC, helping the team to a runner-up finish in the Mid-Florida Conference. Coach Wilson was married in May of 2006 to Dr. Matt Wilson, a college professor in the sports management and coaching education area.
