Based on her performance over last weekend, redshirt freshman Laura Lowman has been named as the goalie on this week’s Soccerbuzz.com National Elite Team of the Week.
Lowman held No. 25 ranked Auburn scoreless as the Tide and the Tigers played to a 0-0 tie and then recorded a shutout on Sunday at UT-Martin who ranks 21st in the nation in scoring offense.
The shutouts were Lowman’s fourth and fifth of the season and helped lower her goals-against-average (GAA) to 0.17. She has allowed only one goal this season in 517 minutes of action while recording 472 consecutive scoreless minutes. Her five shutouts rank her fourth in career shutouts in school history.
She was honored earlier in the week as the SEC’s Player of the Week, the first time an Alabama player received the SEC honor since the first week of the 1999 season when Danielle Watson received the award. It is also the first time an Alabama player has been named to a national Elite Team of the Week since Watson.
The Crimson Tide closed out their regular season this past weekend with a tie at Auburn and a 3-0 win at UT-Martin. Lowman and her teammates will now sit and await its fate for the NCAA Tournament. The selection will be made on Sunday, November 10.
