Former University of Alabama All-American and long jump national champion, Miguel Pate, is entering his 14th season as an assistant coach with the Alabama track and field program, overseeing the Crimson Tide's jumps contingent.
Pate's Time at Alabama

- Notable Crimson Tide student-athletes coached by Pate:
- Quanesha Burks - was a 10-time All-American, a two-time NCAA national champion and four-time Southeastern Conference champion, spanning across long jump, sprints and relay events, who competed at Alabama from 2014-17. Burks recently claimed a top-eight finish in long jump at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
- Shelby McEwen - claimed the 2019 indoor national title in the high jump, competing at UA from 2018-19. McEwen ended his UA career as a four-time All-American and the 2018 SEC indoor and outdoor high jump champion. Recently, McEwen won silver at the 2024 Paris Olympics and competed at the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
- Stacey Destin - was a five-time All-American, spanning across the high jump and the multi events who competed for Alabama from 2016-19. Additionally, Destin was a four-time SEC medalist across the pentathlon and the high jump. To this day, Destin still holds the school records for both the women's high jump and women's pentathlon.
- Christian Edwards - was a three-time All-American and a five-time SEC medalist in men's triple jump who competed for the Tide from 2018-23. In his final year at Alabama, Edwards won SEC silver in indoor triple jump and SEC bronze in outdoor triple jump.
- Jeremiah Green - was a four-time All-American and won the 2014 SEC indoor triple jump title, who competed for Alabama from 2014-16. In total, Green accumulated three SEC medals in triple jump.
At Samford
- Coached the horizontal jumps and sprints contingent for the Bulldogs during the 2010-11 athletics year
Pate's International Career
- 2008 Olympian at the Beijing Games after finishing third at the 2008 U.S. Olympic Team Trials
- Won bronze in long jump at the 2002 World Indoor Championships
- Ranked in the top five in the United States, and top 10 in the world, in the long jump for eight consecutive years
- Ended the 2008 season ranked No. 1 in the U.S. by Track and Field News, and followed with a fourth-place finish at the USA Outdoor Championships, before retiring from competition to begin his coaching career
Pate's Student-Athlete Career at Alabama
- Seven-time All-American and 2002 NCAA indoor long jump national champion who competed at Alabama from 1999-2002
- Set the collegiate indoor long jump record at the 2002 USA Indoor Championships (8.59m | 28-2.25)
