Adam Bauman is in his second season at The University of Alabama as director of basketball operations and remains an integral part of head coach Nate Oats’ staff for a sixth consecutive year. In his current role, Bauman is responsible for a variety of aspects of the men’s basketball program, including opponent scouting preparations, operations, scheduling, budget management and team travel.
“Adam has had experience in the SEC being at Mississippi State as their video guy,” Oats said. “I hired him while I was at Buffalo from there and I think he’s one of the most organized, bright young minds that I’ve been around. In doing his ops role at Buffalo, he also helped me on the offensive side of things quite a bit. I think it’s important that he’ll be able to do more basketball stuff here because we will have more ops people assisting him. He’s been able to help us break down film, evaluate things we are doing well and not doing well and will be involved a lot more on the basketball side. He knows how we want things run and has been a big part of the success we’ve had.”
Bauman was on the UB staff for four years under Oats’ direction. While there, he was part of a staff that became the winningest in program history. Over the four-year stretch, the Bulls claimed three Mid-American Conference Tournament championships while also earning a pair of MAC regular season titles. In addition, Buffalo reached the Round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and 2019.
In his first season at Alabama, Bauman played a role in helping convert the Crimson Tide’s offense to one of the most potent in the nation. Alabama finished the 2019-20 campaign leading the SEC in scoring offense (82.0 ppg) and threes made per game (10.8), while ranking third nationally in both categories. In all, UA led the league in six different categories and ranked among the top five in four separate statistics.
Prior to his time at Buffalo, the Pontiac, Ill., native oversaw all video coordination for men’s basketball at Mississippi State while also maintaining the recruiting database. In addition, he was responsible for developing recruiting materials for the coaching staff, breaking down advanced scouting film, helping coordinate summer camps and assisting with on-campus recruiting.
A 2009 graduate of Southern Illinois with a degree in kinesiology, Bauman was a student manager for the SIU basketball teams that won two regular-season Missouri Valley Conference titles and the 2006 league tournament. During his time in Carbondale, the Salukis garnered bids to three NCAA Tournaments and one NIT. He was a part of the 2007 SIU squad that advanced to the Sweet 16.
He then joined the staff at Arizona State as a graduate assistant coach, where he assisted with video production, player development and academic support.
In November of 2009, he took a job at Santa Clara, where in 2011 the Broncos won the CollegeInsider.com Postseason Tournament and finished with the second-most wins (24) in school history.
Born on Oct. 22, 1985, Bauman is a 2004 graduate of Pontiac Township High School, where he lettered twice in basketball. As a senior, his team won the conference title, the program’s first since the mid-80s.
Bauman is married to the former Beth Nathaniel of Akron, Ohio. The couple has two dogs, Mosley and Cali.
