Scott Pospichal, who has over 30 years of coaching experience at the AAU, junior college and high school levels, was named assistant coach of the men's basketball program, Alabama on June 4, 2015.
"Scott is a legendary AAU coach and we are very excited for him to join our program," Johnson said. "During his time with the Texas Titans, he helped develop numerous players who went on to do great things at the college and professional levels. He is an excellent coach who specializes in the offensive part of the game and is a great communicator. There is no doubt in my mind that Scott will be a tremendous asset to our program."
Pospichal (pronounced POSS-pickle) comes to the Capstone after spending the previous 10 years building the Texas Titans into one of the AAU's elite basketball programs in the nation. During his time with the Titans, Pospichal coached over 25 players who signed Division I scholarships, including the likes of Julius Randle (Kentucky), Matthew Jones (Duke), Prince Ebeh (Texas), Damion Jones (Vanderbilt) and Avery Johnson Jr., among many others.
Pospichal led the Titans to seven AAU national championship games in his 10 years at the helm of the program, claiming four national titles and three runner-up finishes. Furthermore, his teams were a member of the NIKE Elite Youth Basketball League (EYBL) for four years and claimed the U-16 Nike National Peach Jam Championship in 2012, which is considered the top AAU event in the nation.
Pospichal's collegiate coaching experience came when he was the head coach at Palm Beach Community College in Lake Worth, Fla., for nine seasons (1987-95). While there, Pospichal became the winningest coach in program history with a record of 181-72 (.715). He led his teams to three conference titles and was named the conference coach of the year three separate times. During his nine years at Palm Beach CC, Pospichal placed 48 of 50 student-athletes in four-year schools.
Prior to his time at Palm Beach, Pospichal was an assistant coach at UNC Charlotte from 1983-85 under head coach Dr. Hal Wissel.
From 1994-2004, Pospichal stepped outside the coaching box and into the world of business where he worked for Excel Communications, which is a multi-billion dollar company. He served on many different levels at the corporation including presidential director, ambassador, executive senior director and many others on his way to becoming the company's 13th-best all-time income earner.
Pospichal played his collegiate basketball at Florida Southern College from 1981-83, where he helped the Mocs to the 1981 NCAA Division II national championship title, while also reaching the national championship game in 1982. Additionally, FSC claimed two NCAA South Region titles (1981, 1982), two conference tournament championships (1981, 1983) and three regular season conference titles (1981, 1982, 1983). He still ranks second in program history in career free throw percentage (.868), while his 207 assists during the 1983 campaign is the second-highest single-season assist total in program history.
Pospichal has been married to his wife, Janet, for 31 years and the couple has four children: son; Jason (24), and triplet daughters; Brooke, Grace and Molly (18). Jason recently graduated from Warner University in Lake Wales, Fla., with a bachelor's degree in sports management, while all three daughters are college freshmen. Brooke signed a scholarship and will be a diver at the University of Texas (Austin), Grace signed a basketball scholarship at Oklahoma Wesleyan University in Bartlesville, Okla., while Molly will be a freshman attending the University of North Texas.
