Colton Houston begins his second year as director of basketball operations and enters his seventh season with the Alabama men’s basketball program. In addition to his new position, Houston has also spent time as the operations coordinator (2013-15), athletics intern (2011-13) and office assistant (2010-11).
In his current position, Houston serves as the director of the Avery Johnson Basketball Camp and also is responsible for coordinating team travel and spearheading the program’s analytics efforts. In addition, Houston plays a large part in scheduling, on-campus recruiting, and has a hand in nearly every aspect of the men’s basketball program.
Prior to his most recent promotion, Houston spent two years as the operations coordinator in which his responsibilities included helping with the statistical analysis of games and practices, assisting with team travel, oversight of staff and student-athlete tickets for home and away games, and helping with the program’s compliance, along with other day-to-day duties as assigned by the coaching staff.
A native of Birmingham, Ala., Houston graduated from Harvard in 2004 with a bachelor’s degree in government. Following his graduation, he was a teacher and assistant boys basketball coach at Christ School (Arden, N.C.), helping guide them to the 3A state title in 2005.
Houston went on to receive a master’s degree in divinity from the Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in 2010. He married the former Megan McCall in 2008 and the couple has one daughter, Caroline, who was born on July 7, 2015.
