Licensing - Crafters Licensing Program
The Alabama Crafters Licensing program exists to make licensing agreements more affordable for small crafters. These agreements are a legal necessity when selling products with university branding. Membership in this program grants you the rights to use university logos and trademarks. Â
To be eligible for the Crafters program, interested individuals must manufacture items themselves by hand. Commercially manufactured items are NOT ELIGIBLE for the program. A list of specific products not allowed in the crafters program include, but are not limited to:
- Apparel/Headwear
- Cornhole boards/other tailgate games
- Tumblers/other similar styles of drinkware
- Consumable items/items used on or in body
- Potentially other items on a case by case basis
Interested parties should fill out an application and submit photos of the products and Alabama designs they'd like to sell. After reviewing the application, the University will either approve the application or contact the applicant to correct any problems that are currently preventing approval. Approved first-year crafters will receive a contract for a term ranging from 7-18 months. The First-Year Crafter Contracts chart outlines the costs and length of a crafters license depending on when you apply. Â
Crafters are allowed to sell up to 500 items or $2,500 in revenue annually. Distribution for the crafters program is limited to temporary locations such as craft fairs and websites (Etsy, Facebook, etc.). Crafters may not sell their items to permanent brick and mortar retail locations. If all conditions continue to be met, crafters will have the option to renew their contract for a new 12-month term each year. All approved crafters will receive an officially licensed certificate to place on their tables at craft shows, a sales reporting form, and hologram stickers to be attached on each item.
