2017 (Senior)
Graduated from The University of Alabama on May 6, one of the Crimson Tide’s five graduates during the 2017 season … battled injuries all season but still managed to make 12 starts … went 1-3 with a 6.27 ERA (39 ER/56.0 IP) overall … induced a team-high tying nine double plays and did not allow a home run … finished 0-3 with a 6.64 ERA (31 ER/42.0 IP) in nine starts against SEC competition. Presbyterian (2/17): Collected his first win of the season, throwing 5.0 innings and allowing three runs (two earned) on opening night … gave up three hits but did not issue a walk and struck out three … the walkless outing marked his first since April 23, 2016, at Texas A&M when he tossed 7.0 innings of one-run baseball but did not factor into the decision … kept the ball low in the zone, inducing nine ground-ball outs compared to three through the air. Oral Roberts (2/24): Did not factor into the decision against the Golden Eagles … worked 4.1 innings, allowing three runs (all earned) on six hits and one walk … struck out four batters … threw 86 pitches before exiting with the game knotted up at 3-3. ULM (3/3): Worked 4.2 innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks … struck out three Warhawk hitters … exited after 90 pitches before handing the ball over to Brock Love … the Crimson Tide would claim the eventual 4-3 win thanks to a walkoff single in the bottom of the ninth. Missouri (3/19): Battled through injuries to make the start on Sunday … worked just 2.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits and a pair of walks … struck out one Tiger hitter … tossed 71 pitches before exiting with the score at 4-3 in favor of Missouri before handing it over to the bullpen. South Carolina (3/26): Did not factor into the decision despite a strong outing against the Gamecocks … kept the ball down in the zone, striking out only two but inducing three double plays and recording 14 of his 17 outs by way of the ground ball … tossed 104 pitches in the start, his longest outing of the 2017 campaign up to that point and the second-most pitches for any game in his career … his career-high pitch mark came during his freshman year, a 109-pitch effort vs. Troy on March 25, 2014. Arkansas (4/2): Faced 18 batters in 3.1 innings before handing the ball over to the bullpen early … allowed three earned runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out one Razorback hitter. Ole Miss (4/8): Did not factor into the final decision … worked 5.0-plus innings, giving up five hits and walking four … left with the game at 4-2, but a pair of sacrifice flies against his reliever resulted in his four earned runs on the day … faced 24 batters across his 91 pitches of work. Texas A&M (4/15): Did not factor into the decision for his seventh consecutive outing despite putting together his best performance of the 2017 season … tossed a season-high 6.0 innings of scoreless baseball, limiting the Aggies to just one hit … issued four walks while striking out a season-high six batters … cruised through the middle innings, retiring 12 in order and recording 13 consecutive outs at one point before working himself out of a jam in the sixth to close out his afternoon … in that sixth, he had runners on the corners with one down but ended the threat with a strikeout followed by a lineout to second … worked a career-high tying 109 pitches against A&M, which he also accomplished against Troy on March 25, 2014 … was his first start not allowing a run since March 20, 2016, at LSU, when he worked only 4.0 innings. Mississippi State – Game 1 (4/21): Suffered his first loss of the season, tossing 91 pitches … allowed four earned runs on seven hits and three walks … struck out a pair of Bulldog hitters … exited the game with the Tide trailing 4-3, the eventual final. LSU (4/28): Took his second loss of the season, working 4.2 innings and allowing six runs (five earned) on 10 hits and three walks while striking out one Tiger hitter … faced a career-high tying 28 batters in the effort. Auburn (5/7): Returned to Auburn to make the Sunday start after walking during the University’s graduation ceremonies on Saturday morning … did not factor into the decision in the Tide’s wild 15-inning victory to complete the series sweep of the Tigers … allowed four runs on six hits and seven walks across his 5.2 innings of work … also struck out one batter … worked 109 pitches to match his career-high mark for pitches in a start, but exited with the game in favor of AU, 4-3. Florida (5/14): Suffered the loss on his Senior Day … worked 4.2 innings, allowing six runs (five earned) on seven hits and five walks … struck out a pair of Gator hitters across his 105 pitches of work.
2016 (Junior)
Slotted in as the Tide’s Sunday starter for nine SEC starts and 12 starts overall ... finished his junior campaign amongst the league leaders in nearly every pitching statistic ... closed out 2016 with a 2.30 ERA (17 ER/66.2 IP) to rank second in the SEC and led the conference with only 17 earned runs allowed and tied for third with 27 total runs given up ... allowed 57 total hits, the sixth-lowest total among pitchers with at least 50-plus innings pitched while limiting opposing hitters to a .227 average against, placing him 14th among conference pitchers ... issued 22 free passes, good for 10th among league arms ... sported a 2.65 ERA (15 ER/51.0 IP) against conference opposition to rank seventh in the league ... his .233 average against in SEC play was 13th overall while his 45 hits allowed were the 14th fewest ... finished as the team leader in overall ERA at 2.30 ... issued only 18 free passes during SEC play, a total that was the team-low ... only 15 of his 23 runs allowed during conference play were earned, as he fell victim to errors in nearly every SEC start ... did not allow more than one earned run in seven of his nine SEC starts. Maryland (2/21): Earned the first win by a Crimson Tide starter in 2016 ... tossed 6.0+ innings, allowing seven hits and one unearned run ... also struck out four and walked only one ... faced 26 hitters in Sunday’s contest, his highest total since March 25, 2014, vs. Troy when he faced a career-high 28 hitters ... his one walk is his fewest walks issued in a start since May 6, 2014, against Jacksonville State, in that game, he tossed 4.0 innings. North Dakota (2/28): Tossed 3.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on two hits and a walk ... also struck out three ... threw 41 pitches before exiting the game with arm tightness. LSU (3/20): Working on a pitch count, tossed 4.0 innings of scoreless baseball ... allowed three hits and one walk while striking out one Tiger hitter ... threw 50 pitches total in his first outing back since his arm injury against North Dakota. Tennessee (3/26): Did not factor into the decision, working 5.0 innings ... allowed three runs (one earned) on five hits with four walks ... also struck out four across his 92 pitches. Kentucky (4/10): Earned his second win of the season after working a career-long 7.2 innings ... allowed only one run on three hits with a walk and three strikeouts ... retired the first nine batters he faced before giving up a single ... followed that hit with a streak of eight straight retired before issuing a walk ... tossed only 82 pitches despite the career-long innings total. Ole Miss (4/17): Secured the series win with his third victory of the season ... worked 6.0 innings and allowed one earned run on six hits and two walks with three strikeouts ... threw a season-high 97 pitches ... his one earned run allowed marked his sixth time in seven starts this season in that he has allowed one or no earned runs. Texas A&M (4/24): Spun another gem of a start for the Crimson Tide but did not factor into the decision, working 7.0 innings of one-run baseball, allowing six hits and not issuing a walk while striking out a season-high five batters ... the junior wrapped up his day recording the final nine outs in order to limit the high-powered Aggie offense ... it was the first time in his career where he allowed only one run three games in-a-row as a starter ... it was the junior’s first time striking out at least five batters since April 28, 2015 against Southern Miss. Mississippi State (4/30): Started game two, suffering the loss despite not allowing an earned run … gave up only four hits and walked one while striking out a season-high tying five batters … retired nine of the final 10 batters he faced … an error in the second allowed for two runs to score, the eventual difference in the game as the Crimson Tide fell, 2-1. Auburn (5/8): Suffered the loss, tossing 6.1 innings and allowing six runs (four earned) on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts … gave up five across the first three innings, but bounced back at the end of his afternoon, retiring 10 of the final 11 batters he faced. Arkansas (5/15): Did not factor into the decision, working 6.0 innings of two-run baseball … allowed only one earned run … gave up three hits and issued three walks while striking out four across his 98 pitches of work … has now allowed one or no earned runs in seven of his nine SEC starts … extended his streak to six consecutive games in which he has worked at least 6.0 innings, the longest stretch of his career. Kentucky (5/24): Earned his fourth win of the season and his second over the Wildcats in 2016 … tossed 6.2 innings and allowed two runs on three hits and a pair of walks while adding three strikeouts … began the game by retiring the first nine hitters he faced before giving up a solo home run to break the streak … the win helped advance Alabama to the double-elimination portion of the 2016 SEC Tournament.
2015 (Sophomore)
Fluctuated between a starter and reliever role, making seven appearances on the season with five starts ... finished with a 3-1 record and one save while sporting a 3.65 ERA (10 ER/24.2 IP) with 25 strikeouts overall ... went 2-1 with a 3.79 ERA (8 ER/17.0 IP) and 18 strikeouts as a starter ... coming out of the bullpen, was 1-0 with one save and a 3.18 ERA (2 ER/5.2 IP) while striking out seven compared to one walk ... from April 7-April 28, struck out five batters in all four appearances. Savannah State (2/24): Tossed 3.0 scoreless innings of work, striking out three while walking four and allowing just one hit. UAB (3/31): Earned his first win of the season after working 1.2 innings of one-run baseball and striking out two. Samford (4/7): Earned his first save of the season, tossing 4.0 innings and striking out five batters while allowing one run on two hits and a walk. UAB (4/14): Notched the win in his second start of the season, tossing 3.2 innings and allowing one run on three hits and four walks with five punchouts. Mississippi Valley State (4/21): Tossed a season-high 7.0 innings of one-run baseball in the first game against MVSU to collect his third win of the year ... struck out five while walking two and allowing three hits. Southern Miss (4/28): Suffered his first loss of the season, tossing 4.0 innings and allowing a season-high four runs on a season-high nine hits while walking two and striking out five. Alabama A&M (5/5): Made his fifth start of the year, tossing a season-low 1.1 IP and allowing two earned runs on four walks and a hit ... Alabama’s bullpen would hold the Bulldogs scoreless over the final 7.2 innings for the 7-2 win in game one the doubleheader.
2014 (Freshman)
Made 20 appearances in 2014 with nine starts, including two quality starts ... went 3-2 with a 3.35 ERA (19 ER/51.0 IP) and a .188 average against. St. Louis (2/15): Struck out one across 3.0 scoreless IP in his first collegiate appearance. Southern Miss (2/26): Did not factor into the decision in his first career start, surrendering one unearned run while striking four in 5.0 IP against the Golden Eagles. Samford (3/11): Gave up one run on three hits with a career-high 12 punchouts against the Bulldogs for his first victory at Alabama ... the 12 strikeouts tied Justin Kamplain for the most strikeouts in a game by an Alabama pitcher during the 2014 season. Troy (3/25): Picked up the second win of his career against the Trojans, allowing only one run on two hits and striking out nine through 7.0 IP. Jacksonville State (5/6): Credited with the win in a four-inning start, holding the Gamecocks scoreless.
