The Crimson Tide trailed early before a goal from Melina Rebimbas knotted up the score
BATON ROUGE, La. – After waiting out a brief lightning delay, Alabama soccer kicked off its 2026 campaign with a Wednesday night exhibition match at No. 16 LSU, ending in a 1-1 draw.
The Tigers got on the board early with a header in the seventh minute to move ahead 1-0. The Crimson Tide had four shots on target in the first half but could not convert, heading into the locker room at half still trailing by one. In the 65th minute, senior Melina Rebimbas knotted up the score with a goal off the assist from Ashley Roni. The Tide kept up the offensive pressure in the closing minutes, but the game ultimately ended in a draw at the end of regulation.
From Head Coach Wes Hart
"I thought this was a great way to kick off our season. We went on the road and tested ourselves against a very good LSU team. I was a bit discouraged with our first half. I thought we started a bit slow. Our press was late and ineffective and we did a poor job keeping the ball, but I thought our response at halftime was awesome! I felt we were the better team in the second half and deservedly scored the equalizer although I also felt we were a bit unfortunate not to find the game winner. I think it was great preparation for both teams. LSU was able to expose some things and show us some areas we need to improve, but there was certainly plenty to be excited about too."
