BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama dropped its Tuesday midweek matchup at Samford, 3-2, as the Bulldogs rallied to take a lead in the fifth inning and held the potential tying run in scoring position in the seventh.

Alabama (39-4) took the first lead of the game on a pair of solo home runs from Audrey Vandagriff and Ana Roman. With the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the fifth, Samford (19-26) plated a run on a passed ball and, after a walk loaded the bases again, a two-run double down the line gave the Bulldogs the lead. With the score still 3-2 in the top of the seventh, Salen Hawkins led off the inning with a double off the wall in center field but was ultimately left stranded as Samford held on for the one-run win.
