The Crimson Tide shut out No. 6 Florida State, Kaitlyn Pallozzi throws the 10th perfect game in program history
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Alabama softball went 2-0 Friday to start action at the Dugout Club Classic, with freshman Kaitlyn Pallozzi throwing the 10th perfect game in program history in a 7-0 win over Elon before the Crimson Tide shut out tournament host and sixth-ranked Florida State, 8-0.
Alabama (11-0) made history in the day's opening game against Elon (1-9), as Kaitlyn Pallozzi (3-0) became the first freshman in program history to throw a perfect game. It is the 10th perfect game in program history and the first since Montana Fouts at Ole Miss on May 5, 2023. The second game of the day was a top 10 showdown as the eighth-ranked Crimson Tide took on No. 6 Florida State (10-3). After 3.0 scoreless innings, a trio of home runs gave Alabama a 4-0 lead before doubling that margin with a four-run seventh in what ended up as an 8-0 shutout over the tournament-host Seminoles.
The freshmen duo of Pallozzi and Vic Moten (6-0) were nearly untouchable Friday, with Pallozzi striking out six in the perfect game while Moten went the distance for the complete-game win, holding the home team to just three hits over 7.0 innings while striking out seven.
On the other side of the ball, fellow freshman Ana Roman was a combined 3-for-5 with two home runs and seven RBIs between Friday's two games, giving her the team lead with five home runs this season. Brooke Wells had four hits, including a double and a home run against Florida State.
From Head Coach Patrick Murphy
"What a great day for the Tide. A perfect game by a freshman in game one and a complete game shutout by a freshman in game two. I'm not sure I've seen two better pitched games by freshmen in my career at Alabama."
