
Giele Named SEC Freshman of the Week

The UA freshman posted three first-place finishes in the Tide’s dual meet against the Texas A&M Aggies
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After helping Alabama to a win over Texas A&M, Tessa Giele was named the Southeastern Conference Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
Individually, Giele clocked the fastest time in the 50 free (21.91) and 100 butterfly (51.16), while also helping her 400 freestyle relay team to a first-place finish. Both individual events would earn her a spot in the top 25 nationally as well as on UA's all-time top 10 list.

- Won three events, including two individual competitions against the Aggies
- Clocked a 51.16 in the 100 butterfly to rank 13th nationally in the event, while her 21.91 time in the 50 free placed her 24th in the national rankings
- In addition to her national placement, her 50 free performance ranks sixth all-time in program history, while her 100 butterfly time ranks third at UA
- Captured the top time in the 100 butterfly by over a second and a half
- Claimed first in the 50 free by two-tenths of a second
- Helped the 400 free relay team capture a first-place finish by over two seconds
- Record the fastest 50 fly split in the 200 medley relay, clocking a 22.68
