Leonardo Alcantara used a 4:11.87 to place sixth overall and earn First Team All-America honors in the 500 freestyle

ATLANTA – Leonardo Alcantara earned a podium finish in the 500 freestyle to pace Alabama on the third night of the NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships.

With a time of 4:11.87, Alcantara captured a sixth-place finish to earn First Team All-America honors and highlight the day for the Tide.

In addition to Alcantara, Sean Niewold notched Second Team All-America honors in the 50 freestyle with an 11^th-place finish. After the third day of competition, the Crimson Tide is in 23^rd place with 27 points.

Leonardo Alcantara used a 4:10.82 performance to move from the ninth seed heading into the 500 freestyle to the fifth-fastest prelim swimmer
Niewold claimed his first individual All-America honor, securing an 11^th-place finish in the 50 free to earn second-team accolades
His time of 18.79 moved him up three spots as the sprint freestyler entered as the 14^th seed
Tommy Hagar used a career-best 44.98 to move from the 25^th seed in the 100 back to 22^nd place overall
Just minutes later he would capture a 44.99 as the leadoff swimmer in the 400 medley relay
The quartet of Hagar, Steijn Louter, Niewold and Zarek Wilson would come just shy of All-America honors after moving from the 26^th seed to 17^th with a season-best 3:03.18

Alabama will close its season on Saturday
Prelims will begin at 9 a.m. CT followed by the finals at 5 p.m.
The Tide will compete in the 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke and the 400 free relay
