
Swimming and Diving Downs Delta State in Season Opener

The Crimson Tide won all 32 events in the victory against the Statesmen
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The Alabama swimming and diving team swept Delta State in its season opener on Friday as the women topped the Lady Statesmen 242-39 and the men won 230-64.
The Crimson Tide dominated the competition, securing victories in all 32 events.
Cadence Vincent and Tim Korstanje highlighted the Tide in the victory as both swimmers won a pair of individual events and were members of both relays. Additionally, Emily Jones, Jada Scott and Lance Johnson won two individual titles and a relay event, while Gaby Van Brunt competed in both relays and won an individual event.

“It’s always really fun getting to open the season at home in front of our fans. This meet represents a longstanding tradition between us and the Statesmen, and one that signifies the start of the competition season.
“I’m really proud of how they [Alabama] competed today. I think they represented themselves well and took this as an opportunity to learn a lot about where they are and where they need to grow. I’m excited to get better from here and continue to build.”
Highlights
- Twelve student-athletes won multiple events against Delta State
- Cadence Vincent and Tim Korstanje walked away with four victories on the day
- Vincent topped the 50 (22.21) and 200 free (1:48.12), while joining Emily Jones, Jada Scott and Gaby Van Brunt in the 200 medley relay (1:37.66) and Charlotte Rosendale, Van Brunt and Sarah Parker in the 200 free relay (1:31.90)
- Tim Korstanje also posted a pair of individual wins, recording a victory in the 50 free (20.03) and the 100 butterfly (48.14) as well as swimming alongside Jarrett Payne, Lance Johnson and Jonathan Hoole in the 200 medley relay (1:28.11) and Hoole, Drayden Bell and Toni Dragoja in the 200 free relay (1:19.19)
- In addition to their relay victories, Jones won the 100 (54.54) and 200 back (1:59.07), Scott won the 100 breast (1:02.04) and 200 IM (2:03.40) and Johnson won the 200 breast (1:59.61) and 200 IM (1:50.16)
- Leonardo Alcantara dominated both distance events, taking the top time in the 500 (4:28.81) and 1000 free
- Colten Cryer highlighted the UA divers, winning both spring boards with a score of 350.63 on the 1m board and a score of 331.20 on the 3m board
- Cole Witmer swam a 48.63 in the 100 backstroke and a time of 1:48.02 in the 200 back to win both events
- Butterflier Victoria Raymond won both events with a time of 54.20 and 1:59.30 in the 100 and 200 event, respectively
- Swimming in an off event, Vincent secured a career-best time in the 200 freestyle
