Former Alabama players make an impact in Week 3 of the NFL season
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – The National Football League concluded Week 3 of the regular season Monday evening. Below is a look at how former Alabama players performed on the gridiron last week.
Quarterback Jalen Hurts shined as the Philadelphia Eagles outlasted the Los Angeles Rams, 33-26, to improve to 3-0 on the young season. The reigning Super Bowl MVP completed 21-of-32 passes for 226 yards and three touchdowns while toting the ball nine times for 40 rushing yards and a score. Hurts' primary target was his former Alabama teammate, DeVonta Smith, who hauled in eight catches for 60 yards and a touchdown on the day.
Running back Jahmyr Gibbs powered Detroit's offense in a road win on Monday night. Gibbs carried the ball 22 times for 67 yards and two touchdowns while adding five receptions for 32 yards in the Lions' 38-30 win at Baltimore. Wideout Jaylen Waddle continued his solid start to the new season, managing five receptions for 39 yards and a score for the Miami Dolphins.
Minnesota kicker Will Reichard was perfect in the Vikings' 48-10 rout of the Cincinnati Bengals. The Hoover native connected on all six extra-point tries and both field goal attempts, including a franchise-record 62-yard boot just before halftime.
On defense, linebacker Mack Wilson Sr. continued his stellar start to the season, recording a career-best 12 total tackles, including one for loss, to go with two passes defended for the Arizona Cardinals. Cornerback Josh Jobe also delivered a standout performance for the Seahawks, tallying 11 tackles and a pass breakup in Seattle's 44-13 dismantling of the New Orleans Saints.
Up front, defensive linemen Daron Payne, of the Washington Commanders, and Quinnen Williams, of the New York Jets, each finished with six tackles and a tackle for loss. Payne added a quarterback hurry in his team's 41-24 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. Rookie linebacker Jihaad Campbell continued to impress for Philadelphia, contributing eight tackles in the Eagles' victory.
