TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Entering his 13th season at The Capstone, Kelly Curry serves as Alabama women's basketball's assistant coach who primarily works as an offensive coordinator and with the perimeters. Curry and head coach Kristy Curry have accomplished a lot through their 27 years of coaching, including reaching the 530-win mark during the 2024-25 season.
In our third Q&A of the series, Curry breaks down each pillar of Alabama's motto – "Grit, Love and Gratitude" – and includes an interesting fact that fans might be surprised about.

Describe the team's motto/standard – "Grit, Love and Gratitude"
Grit - passion and perseverance (consistency over time!); mentally and physically the toughest team on the court.
Love - selfless, sacrificial commitment to the best interests of others and the team. It is accepting, unconditional, compassionate, and intentional. (1 Corinthians 13:4-8)
Gratitude - being thankful; appreciation and kindness. Gratitude strengthens relationships and eliminates complaining which eliminates negativity.
It's the end of practice, what are you sharing during GLG time?
Gratitude - Thankful for the opportunity to live my dream everyday while helping others realize their dreams.
What is one thing fans might be surprised to learn about you?
I've never drank a cup of coffee in my life.
What's one moment in your coaching career that's stayed with you – and why?
The bus ride to the arena in St. Louis to play in the National Championship game. Our fans were lining the streets and headed to the game. It was a surreal moment walking out on the court that day.
What's the biggest lesson you hope the student-athletes will take with them beyond their playing careers?
You can accomplish anything in life if you are willing to put in the work with consistency and discipline.
