Get to Know: Head Coach Kristy Curry
Describe the team's motto – "Grit, Love and Gratitude"
We want to be the hardest worker in the classroom, on the court and in the community with great GRIT. We want to LOVE the front of our chest more than the back and know that each day we get to play the game we love. We want to live with a heart of GRATITUDE for all we have been blessed with to be at a place like the University of Alabama!
What's one moment in your coaching career that's stayed with you – and why?
There are many – it's more about the daily moments of seeing young women grow and develop each day – on the court and in the classroom – my proudest moments are seeing them become successful when the ball stops bouncing.
A recent moment which corresponds with this past season is when with Zaay Green, Sarah Ashlee Barker and Aaliyah Nye were drafted. After being able to see their work and belief they put in daily, it was truly special to see their collegiate careers finish with the WNBA Draft. Zaay and Sarah Ashlee finished with master's degrees and Aaliyah is currently working on her MBA. How many draftees can say they have that type of academic finish with an NCAA Tournament appearance and getting drafted?
What is your go-to coffee order before practice/on gameday?
Hot chai tea latte with an extra pump of chai and cinnamon powder is definitely my go to!
What's the biggest lesson you hope your student-athletes will take with them beyond their playing careers?
I hope that they learn they can accomplish anything in life that they want to become if they are willing to put in the work with discipline and high character.
When looking to add a player to the program, what qualities and attributes are you looking for?
High motor, high basketball IQ, and a great communicator with high character! Someone that exemplifies exactly what GLG is about!
What is one thing fans might be surprised to learn about you?
I have hummingbird feeders and love watching them in the spring and summer! I just wish they were year-round!
What are you most excited about for the 2025-26 season?
The opportunity to work with a team that will have a lot of new faces and see their growth each day!
